Maturity Claims

When a policy reaches its maturity date, LIC's servicing branch typically initiates the process, or can be prompted with a discharge form and supporting documents (policy bond, ID proof, bank account details for NEFT payment). Starting the paperwork a few weeks ahead of the maturity date helps avoid delays.

Death Claims

A death claim is understandably a difficult process for a family, and involves intimating LIC's servicing branch with the policy number and date of death, then submitting documents that typically include the original policy bond, death certificate, claim forms, and the nominee's ID and bank details.

Early Claims

If death occurs within the first few years of a policy (an "early claim"), LIC may conduct additional verification as part of its standard process — this is routine and not an indication of any wrongdoing; it simply reflects standard underwriting practice across the industry for claims soon after a policy starts.

Why an Updated Nominee Matters

An outdated or missing nominee is one of the most common causes of delay in a death claim. Keeping nominee details current is one of the simplest, most impactful pieces of policy servicing — see our Nomination Guidance page.
